Next Saturday night  (Oct 29th) the Apple Core Band will be playing at JVs  in Falls Church at 9pm.   We'll be having dinner at a nearby restaurant before heading over to JVs around 8pm to snag good seats.

Here is a little taste of what you will hear.  They are excellent!

Abbey Road on the River - Again

After last year's event, I made a 5 minute video of my experience and submitted it to a contest run by the organizer and to my great excitement I won the grand prize.  So this year I had two of the best 5 day tickets for me and a friend and a complimentary two night stay in the Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor where the event is held.

I took my cousin with me as my guest.  She wasn't really a fan, but was looking forward to the outing, but thankfully, she discovered that she loves the Beatles and wants to go back next year! Yeah Yeah Yeah.

Discovered lots of great bands from around the world such as Old Brown Shoe (from The Netherlands), The Norwegian Beatles (guess where they are from?), The Jukebox (from Puerto Rico), and Abbey Road Live from the USA.  Other more local favorites were Apple Core Band and The English Channel.

Apple Core Band

Last weekend we went to JV's restaurant in Falls Church (VA) to watch Apple Core Band. They performed at Abbey Road on the River in DC, but we didn't manage to see them there. It was better seeing them in Falls Church because the venue was tiny and we were right at the front as you can see from these photos. These guys are great. Not only do they have a great sound, but the showmanship is wonderful too. They seem to have endless energy. Looking forward to seeing them again soon.

Abbey Road on the River - DC

Labor Day weekend I attended Abbey Road on the River at the National Harbor in DC. I was lucky I live in the western DC suburbs. It was about 40 minutes to drive there and well worth the effort.

The event is a 5 day event and I really wish I could have justified the money to stay at the hotel and do more than just one day. However, I think for next year, I'd like to at least stay one night. With just one day, there were so many things that I missed because it just wasn't possible to be everywhere at once.

Me with David Bedford, author of Liddypool
Through my interactions with a group of fans in the UK, I had met David Bedford online and he had told me to introduce myself if I made it to his talk. I am glad I made the effort. His talk about his book Liddypool was one of the highlights of the day. I even splurged and purchased his book which he kindly personalized for me. It is a wonderful book.

We heard several excellent bands but because of time, not as many as we would have liked. We did catch The English Channel, shown above. They were fab.

We missed seeing the Apple Core Band, but they were there and through the video I made (see below), I connected with the band and have since seen them perform elsewhere. Again, they are a fabulous band.

So to give you an idea of what the day was like, you can watch a short video that I made of the day here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLkUH39Xm60

Enjoy and if you plan to go in 2011, send me a comment and maybe we can meet up.

Up and Running

My friend Ernie, crossing in the Abbey Road crosswalk August 1, 2010
I've been a Beatles fan since I was 16 or 17 and for many years my Beatlemania was pretty bad. Even though the Beatles had actually broken up and begun their solo careers long before I contracted this ailment, I managed to fill a huge binder with clippings about them over the years and to spend lots of my hard earned money on visiting Beatles sights in England, buying albums and reading books about them.

For the past 15 years, I was in a remission of sorts as the friends I had who shared my passion got busy with life and other interests. However, in the past year, I have had a relapse. Not only have I reconnected with old Beatles friends and discovered new ones.

In the intervening years I had also developed a passion for technology, so I no longer have to use a scrapbook to glue in photos or clippings. I have the whole world wide web at my disposal to provide the sources and I plan to use this blog as my scrapbook.

If you are crazy about the Beatles and/or the solo Beatles, I hope you enjoy reading about the things I write about, discover or participate in. Please leave comments if you have anything to say. I will read them all.
